Cleveland Calls Upon Montana Governor Greg Gianforte to Confirm With President Donald Trump That Violent Federal Overreach of ICE Will Not Come to Montana
Montana - Russ Cleveland, the leading Western Montana Congressional Candidate challenging embattled incumbent Ryan Zinke in the 2026 Montana House District 1 election, calls upon Montana Governor Greg Gianforte to engage with President Donald Trumpt to assure Montanans that violent ICE raids are not coming to Montana.
Cleveland issued the following statement today:
Montanans deserve safety, accountability, and constitutional rights that are respected. Of course, we should enforce our laws and make sure that anyone who breaks the law in Montana faces consequences, regardless of immigration status.
I have confidence in our local law enforcement officials and the Montana Highway patrol to protect the safety of our communities, our businesses and our families. And when necessary, local law enforcement may work with federal partners in cases involving individuals who are in the country unlawfully and have committed crimes.
What I do not understand, and what no Montanan should accept, is the sight of masked, untrained federal agents operating like jack-booted thugs in our cities. We have seen it in Minnesota and elsewhere: people randomly targeted, citizens assaulted, and at worst, law-abiding Americans killed. Kate and I grieve for the victims and their families.
Today, I’m calling on Governor Greg Gianforte to personally confirm to Montanans that he has engaged with President Trump and ICE leadership, and to provide a clear guarantee that this kind of violent federal overreach will not come to Montana.
The rumors are already spreading, and they create fear and unrest on their own.
Governor Gianforte, your silence is deafening. It is time to stand up for our Constitutional rights, under both the U.S. and Montana Constitutions and protect Montana communities.
